fullscreen color cycling via the alt-enter (dosbox) fullscreen mode. now to
get the cycles (dosbox) right so that the colorcycling is as smoov as it
used to be on my oldschool box.

http://spanky.triumf.ca/www/FRACTint/fractint.html

it really wasn't too hard to manage once i knew the programs. the key was to
put the fractint folder (with dosbox as a subfolder for easy accessibility)
into the root directory run dosbox then type 'mount c c:\fractint' then
typed 'c:' to switch to c: hit alt-enter (to toggle dosbox fullscreen) then
typed fractint to start the lovely stonesoup beast that sucked more of my
time than you can possibly imagine back in the 20th century. 1024x768
vga/vesa autodetect worked pretty good as a video mode. w00t! more than that
actually w000h000h000h00000! i'm pretty darn happy about this. wee!

Cheers!

Cool. I use DOSbox to run old DOS apps too. In fact, I will be using
fractint this semester, so I will give that a try.

think i should bother to explain color cycling to the alt.slack crowd? it
probably in the end would prove entertaining to them but a lot of them have
wayyyyy too much monkey dna to bother. ook ook ook "Bob" shiny things,
smoke.

No, I expect they may well have tried it when a 386 at 66 MHz was a
blazing box! That was the cool thing about color cycling with
fractint: you might wait two days to draw a zoom, but then you press
"c" and it feels like you are falling into clown pants!

i always prefered subtler color schemes. colors that made my neurons go
ooooh.

It's sure a cool effect on fractals though

One of my favorite art forms, but palette cycling is a pain in the ass
now. PCs -can- change screen modes into a palette mode sort of
vaguely Amiga-style but it's a lot clumsier.

Winamp visualizers do that sometimes ... come to think of it though,
while I used to have some nice Winamp visualizers set up, all my
favorites crash my computer since the last time I "upgraded".

A neighbour comes to the gate of Nasreddin Hoja's yard. The Hoja goes out to meet him outside. "Would you mind, Hoja," the neighbour asks, "to lend me your donkey today? I have some goods to transport to the next town." The Hoja doesn't feel inclined to lend out the animal to that particular man, however; so, not to seem rude, he answers: "I'm sorry, but I've already lent him to somebody else." Suddenly the donkey can be heard braying loudly behind the wall of the yard. "You lied to me, Hoja!" the neighbour exclaims. "There it is behind that wall!" "What do you mean?" the Hoja replies indignantly. "Whom would you rather believe, a donkey or your Hoja??"
