I want to get into fractal art. I'm a novice not a mathmatician or
anything.

Are there free programs for Win XP for doing it?
Something modern, not from like 8 years ago?

Have you tried UltraFractal?

I haven't used it myself, but I've heard good things about it.

Looks nice, but does it expire in 30 days?

I have used Ultra Fractal for five years. It is an excellent program,
but not free. Personally, I feel that the cost is well worth it. It
doesn't exactly expire, but all images rendered with an unregistered
version are embedded with that information. Two big things make UF
different than any other fractal art programs I have investigated....an
excellent user interface expressly adapted to the peculiarities of
fractal art, and the ability to composite multiple layers to create
more than illustrations of the mathematical entities. Some examples of
my art are at: http://www.mathsong.com and
http://picasaweb.google.com/susan.chambless/

A nice list of available fractal art programs, free and otherwise can
be found here:
http://www.fractalarts.com/ASF/Download.html

The GIMP has some nifty fractal filters/scripts. It is a great,
photoshop type image program.

Cheers,
Susan

Oh, yes, I forgot Apophysis, http://www.apophysis.com which is an open
source program for producing flame fractals, a variation on IFS.

Another good freeware alternative is Chaospro:
It can be obtained from http://www.chaospro.de/

Succes!

Note that ChaosPro is pretty much compatible with Ultrafractal.

I am going to indulge my ego and assume this is directed to me. If I
am wrong, forgive me.
First of all, thank you. Secondly, I am capable of producing 8.5x11
images, plus, I have located a local printing company that does art
prints. http://://www.diversifiedlab.com/ It came highly recommended
by the director of the Center for Visual Technology at the local
community college -- a leader in the art print world
http://www.stlcc.edu/mc/cvt/ . A friend here locally has expressed an
interest, but we are both procrastinators and just haven't gotten
there, yet. They seem quite reasonable to me, and were recommended by
the head of the . I have been overshelmed by various personal events
for the last couple of year, so haven't made much headway. I would
definiteily work out details with anyone interested. I donated some
8.5x11 framed prints to a Katrina benefit last year. I printed them
myself, and they came out quite well, I thought. I printed them on
archival quality matte photographic paper, with my Epson 84. I
contributed them as single edition prints, that will not be duplicated.
In short, if you are interested, contact me and we can work something
out.

Chaoscope is good if you want to look at strange attractors. It does well
producing "solid" 3D renders.

New version was just released - It is totally free and the images produced
are royalty free (for the artistic types.)

More information here:
